Ateshgah - Fire Temple
30 minutes
Azerbaijan is declared to be the country of fire and it has historical basis. For long centuries Absheron’s lands were covered with naked flames coming out of the ground. Rumors about this miracle spread around the world pretty quickly and in the first century BC, Hindu Brahmanites and Persian Zoroastrians have decided to build a majestic temple there. They gave this place a significant name – Ateshgah.
Azerbaijan was always situated on the cross-roads, therefore back in the days there wasn’t a day when the country wasn’t full of merchants who needed a place to stay and rest. For these purpose on the territory of Absheron a magnificent caravanserai was built. Visiting it, tourists will have a chance to hear about every day life of those who lived there long time ago, the traditions of fire worshippers and so much more.

Yanardag is one of many magical places in Azerbaijan. For many centuries fire flames were bursting out of the land itself, giving the mountain the place is situated in its name (Yanar Dag – “Burning Mountain”). Located nearly at the top of the mountain itself, it gives tourists not only the great overview of the surroundings and the fire itself, but also leaves a satisfying “out-of-this-world” experience. On this meaningful note, we can say that the Gobustan-Absheron is coming to its natural ending and we return to Baku safely.

It takes some time, but by the time guests of Azerbaijan Travel International return to Baku, they can see the bigger picture and carrying the deeper understanding of the miracle that Azerbaijan is.
